The Meateaters were long considered the main (and possibly only) representative of the militant American anti-veganhardcore scene. The Band was said to have formed in Corpus Christi, Texas, US. Their internationally successful six-track cassette "Give me a hamburger for half the price" (Eugen Records) circulated in the European hardcore area during the second half of the 80s, where it caused some hilarity not least because the idiotic lyrics. But it was all a hoax. In fact, the Meateaters consisted of an assembly of low-achieving musicans from Linköping, who wasted their study grants in Bosse Sound's studio during the sports holiday 1984. Eventually, when the hoax was unmasked, hardcore experts admitted that the Meateaters are probably the best hardcore band that never existed.
